Aikido in Poland
Mar 22nd, 2007 by Jason
If I’ve been a little slack posting lately it’s because things have been crazy, both at work and personally.
This weekend just gone, I travelled to Poland along with 5 other students at Exeter Aikido.
We left at 8pm on Thursday evening and took two cars up to a house near Stanstead, where we could get our heads down until the morning and then take a taxi to the airport. Travelling this way meant that after the hour and a half flight to Poznan we were reasonably fresh; well, better than if we’d got up at 3am to drive to the airport anyway!
We were staying at the home of the sensei, who is currently living in Puszcyzkowo - a fairly attractive province next to a national park. Training was arranged for Friday evening with double classes on Saturday and Sunday.
The Aikido classes were held in an air-conditioned studio in a private spa - quite a contrast from the hall we use in a community centre at home (earmarked for closure!)
Training sessions were followed by various combinations of sauna/plunge, jacuzzi/steam room or swimming followed by a quick drink in the spa bar.
Saturday and Sunday evening’s consisted of fantastic meals in two different Italian restaurants in Poznan, one of which was attended by the students and partners of the Polish students.
A great time was had by all and new friends were made on both sides. Should any Aikidoka be planning a trip to Easter Europe and require a place to train, drop me an email and I’ll point you in the direction of a quality Aikika club in Puszczykowo.
Would I go again… damn right. Planning the next trip already!
