Don’t Trust Google Browser Sync
Apr 20th, 2007 by Jason
Hmm… it may well be that Micro$oft XP is responsible but I haven’t had a chance to investigate yet.
I have been using Google Browser Sync with Firefox for some time, and found it much easier to use than periodically updating my bookmarks by exporting them to a usb pen and importing them to other computers. The problem has arisen this morning, as I fired up my browser at work, where most of the ‘Bookmarks Toolbar Folder’ bookmarks are gone!
Perhaps someone with plenty of Moz experience may enlighten me, but in the absence of anything else I was wondering if this could have been caused by using Fast User Switching on XP at home, when Firefox is running under two profiles? Strange thing is, no other bookmarks seem to have been affected other than the Toolbar bookmarks.
Fortunately, I don’t trust Google enough to not make my own independent backups. So, I have just restored my bookmarks from Wednesday and yes, I do feel like a very smug b*****.
